Selfie

Selfie is a commentary on the cultural phenomenon of self-documentation and the changing nature of identity in the digital age. Through the compilation of thousands of self-portraits, I aim to explore the complexities and contradictions inherent in the act of taking a selfie: the desire for self-expression and validation, as well as the pressure to present a curated version of ourselves online.

The creation of this film took 400+ hours to complete as I sorted through thousands of images, downloading each image one by one, and sorting them by date and time. The immense effort it took to stitch each image together is significant in and of itself, as it challenges the inherent triviality of the act of taking a selfie. Through this process, I use my own experiences with selfie-taking to question and reflect upon societal norms and expectations surrounding self-image and self-presentation. The end result is a thoughtful and intimate exploration of the human condition in the digital age.

All That I Know

All That I Know aims to explore the limitations and deceits of the human mind. Through the use of symbolism and narrative, I examine the feeling of being trapped in poverty and yearning for something more. The cardboard house represents the restrictions placed on those living in poverty, while the worker’s outfit and calendar devoid of dates illustrate the monotony and lack of opportunity in this situation. My hope is that this film will provoke thought and discussion about societal limitations and our perception of them.
